Preliminary examination at Cape Canaveral showed Ham to be in excellent condition. The test will help determine whether there are any physical or psychological problems which cold bar a human Astronaut from making a similar space flight within a few months. The space hero returns Saturday to his training base at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., for extensive observation and physical checks to determine just how well he came through the 156-mile-high flight. He alternately smiled and grimaced at the newsmen and wound up playing patty cake, stroking the nose and biting the finger of one handler, A/1C Joe Pace of Darlington, S.C. But by the end of the seven-minute interview he seemed completely at ease. He screeched at first when he faced the battery of still and television cameras.
